If you order one of the models that has pre-BDXL versions and BDXL versions then it's even more of a gamble and, frankly, I am not sure why some people focus on those drives so much when there are other drive options. This firmware update is for use only on PC’s with Windows 10.

I have changed the firmware to the last version that makes the NS50 drives capable of reading 4K discs - version 1.02. With 1.03 installed, these drives are not able to read a 4K disc, developed in an effort to further the anti-piracy movement.

People who have waited this long pretty much have to accept that the chances are more likely that the drive will come with the latest firmware that blocks the loophole. I have 4 brand new LG WH16NS40 that came from the factory with firmware 1.03 and service code NS50.
